Fuchsia is a genus of tropical flowering plants that consists mostly of shrubs or small trees. This flower is named after the renowned German botanist Leonhart Fuchs (1501–1566).The flowers are very decorative; they have a pendulous "tear drop" shape and are displayed in profusion throughout the summer and autumn, and all year in tropical areas. The majority of fuchsia species are native to Central and South America. There are many Fuchsia hybrids that have descended from a few parent species. These beautiful flowers are great just about anywhere in your garden. However, you will find fuchsia growing best in hanging baskets on the patio. Fuchsia prefers shade and cool temperature. Pictures of fuchsia in this page were taken at the Sherman Library and Gardens in Corona Del Mar, California.
