English thyme, also called garden thyme and German thyme, is native to the western Mediterranean area, and now widely cultivated throughout temperate climes. Thyme is one of the fines herbes in French cuisine. Whorls of tiny, tubular, lilac flowers appear on the stem ends in late spring to early summer. Flowers are attractive to bees. Plants are evergreen in mild winters. USDA zone 5-9.
