Chili or hot pepper is a domesticated species of the plant genus Capsicum native to southern North America and northern South America. Hot peppers are used in medicine as well as food in Africa and Asia. In general, most peppers can be categorized as one of three general types: sweet peppers, hot peppers or ornamental peppers. Peppers can be grown as perennial in USDA zone 9-11.
