The leek is a vegetable which belongs to the same family with the onion and garlic. Rather than forming a tight bulb like the onion, the leek produces a long cylinder of bundled leaf sheaths which are generally blanched by pushing soil around them. One of the most popular uses for the whites and light green stalks is for adding flavor to stock.
