Wild betel leaves are often confused with betel, but they lack the intense taste of the betel leaves and are significantly smaller. Often expensive to buy at the oriental market, these heart-shaped leaves are used to wrap around a ground beef mixture for thit bo nuong la lot, a Vietnamese famous dish. Wild betel is a tropical plant and can be grown in frost free areas.
