Bay tree or else way is known as bay laurel, is a tree that has some amazing leaves and is known for them. However, those leaves can cause some slight little problems when they start turning in different colors.

The most common color that appears in these plants r trees is brown, and that is why I am writing this article! Why are bay tree leaves turning brown? What are the reasons? How to prevent this? In order to find out the answers to these questions, you can stick until the end of this article!

Now, without further ado, let’s get this article started!

Why Are My Bay Tree’s Leaves Turning Brown? – Main Reasons

I mentioned above that the bay trees are also known as bay laurel, but I cannot help but mention their botanical name and some other information as well. Known as Laurus Nobilis, this plant or tree comes from the plant family Lauraceae and it is mostly found in the Mediterranean region.

An important thing to mention is that the leaves of this tree are one of the most commonly used leaves in different cooking and different dishes.

Now, these beneficial leaves have their own diseases as well, and one of them is the brown color that appears on them, and it is basically the reason why you are here. Knowing the reasons the bay tree leaves are turning brown is the best way to deal with them, and some of the main reasons include watering, temperature, humidity, pests, and light.

I will go into more detail about the reasons that I mentioned!

Watering Process

The watering process of any kind of plant or tree is one of the main reasons that contribute to a bad thing such as a brown leaf. It is important to always have in mind that underwatering and overwatering processes of any plant are big damage that you can do. Besides the brown leaves, these two issues can also fully damage the roots of the bay tree.

Temperature and Lighting Conditions

Bay trees are known for the love that they have for light and sun, but still, as you all know, when something is too much, there is damage of some kind. Well, in bay trees, too hot temperatures and too much exposure to the sun can cause damage to the leaves, them becoming brown.

Pests or Insects

Another super important reason that causes brown color on the leaves of a bay tree is the pests or any type of insect that may surround the plant in some way. Pests are also considered a super hard and annoying disease that happens to the roots as well, but in this case, they fully take the nutrition of the bay tree and the leaves without nutrition can easily become brown.

How to Prevent Bay Tree Leaves Turning Brown?

Prevention is to take care of anything before it goes under a disease such as the brown leaves on a bay tree. Well, there are a few things that you can do in order to protect a bay tree, and the first one is to water the tree more than properly! You should always have in mind that a bay tree needs to be watered frequently during the summertime, and most importantly, you should have in mind that this type of tree wants its soil a bit wet.

Another issue that you may encounter was the temperature and the light, right? Well, I already said that a bay tree loves to sit on the light, but an excessive one harms the leaves completely. That’s why, especially those that are at the beginning of the stage of a bay tree, should know that it loves shade as well. Put your bay tree in a shady and lightly placed at the same time.

When it comes to insects and other pests that may cause brown leaves, you should definitely take them out as soon as you see them. It is important for the bay tree to be grown without those bugging little things around since they can harm the tree and the leaves in many ways and not only by causing brown leaves.

Phytophthora – The Main Disease

There is something quite important that I didn’t mention above because it requires a complete self-section and it is the disease Phytophthora! It is a deadly illness for many plants around the world, and most importantly, it is included in bay trees as well!

The first symptoms of this illness are exactly the brown leaves that we are dealing with in this article. Still, it is important to be mentioned that if your bay tree is going through this bad disease, you should stick to the preventions that I mentioned above, as there were included watering, light conditions, and pests.

Final Words

Coming to the end, you can clearly notice that the main thing that causes brown leaves in a bay tree is the watering issue. As I always say, it is one of the most confusing things that anyone needs to learn about plants in general, but if it is done properly, you can be more than sure that your plants can live even more than you can imagine. Still, that doesn’t conclude with the fact that there are many other reasons, just like the ones mentioned above in which the insects are the “main character”.

I really hope that this article will be your biggest helper in order to choose the issue of bay tree leaves turning brown!
